Genesis 25:7
After the death of Abraham, He was 175 years old, an old man full of years. Abraham son’s Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the Field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is east of Mamre.
Since Isaac was the Son of Promise, let us focus our attention on him;
Genesis 17: 19,21
Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed and thou shall call his name Isaac and I will establish my covenant with him and his seed after him.
After reviewing Abraham’s life pattern of digging wells, building Altars and even his fears, as he walk with God, I notice Isaac’s son life shared the same like pattern. He was not truthful about who his wife (Rebekah) was; He feared the Philistines would take his life, because she was fair and beautiful.
Following in the footsteps of Abraham the wrong way (Genesis 12:10-20; 20:1-17). Both failed God in faith, for it was impossible for either to be killed if God’s Word was to be fulfilled concerning their seed. It is doubtful that Abraham had ever told his son of his own weakness on this point. So, Isaac was not prepared to guard against such temptation. The statement was true regarding Abraham and his wife, but not with Isaac, for Rebekah was only his cousin.
Genesis 26:1-25
There was a famine in the land, other than the former famine that was in the days of Abraham. Isaac went to Gerar, Gerar is an ancient Philistine city a wealthy city rule by Abimelech “King of the Philistines.
A Famine is a time of lack of a supply of food or water. In the face of famine, Abraham migrated to Egypt, Isaac went to Gerar in Philistine territory and Jacob moved to Egypt (Genesis 41-47)
There the Lord appeared to Isaac and instructed him not to go down to Egypt. He told him to live in the land of which I will tell you. If you do this, I will bless you and your seed. I will be with you and will favor you with blessings.
As the Lord began to bless and favored him, he became very wealthy and distinguished in Gerar and the Philistine envied him; In so much that, all the Wells Abraham his father’s servants had dug the Philistines closed and filled them with earth.
The King of Philistine Abimelech said to Isaac, go away from us for you are much mightier than we are; so Isaac went away from there to keep peace.
As he move forward he began to dig again the Wells of water which had been dug by his father Abraham that the Philistines had stopped up. He gave them the names his father had called them.
1.He dug one in the valley and found a well of springing water(well of living water). He name one Esek meaning “Contention”; because there was strive with the herdsmen of Gerar and Isaac herdsmen.
2.He dug another and name it Sitnah meaning “Enmity”; the herdsmen quarreled over that one also.
3.He dug another and name it Rehoboth meaning “Room”;there was no quarreling so He said the Lord had made room for us. We shall be fruitful in the land.
4.He went up from there to Beersheba and dug a well and name it “Beersheba” meaning “Well of the seven or well of the Oath”.
Genesis 21;31-33;Genesis 22:19
Here Isaac built an Altar and called upon the name of the Lord and pitched his tent.
As Isaac, we too have to dig again some of the wells that we allow the enemy to close up in our lives with envy, contention, strive and enmity. These are works of the flesh that will stop the flow and create a famine in our lives.
The Location of the Well
The location of the River of God is within us, also the well. Remember we sang songs like “I Got a River of Life Flowing Out of Me” “Spring Up Old Well Down in My Soul” ” Lord Prepare Me to be a Sanctuary” these are songs that speak to the inward parts of our being ,the spirit man.
We need to sing to the waters within us, God love worshipers. We don’t have to go here and there looking for the River of God, just look within. We can go within our earth and tap into the Spring of Living water(the Well) and become that river that flows out of the Sanctuary.
Define Well: A pit or hole sunk into the earth to provide water or spring, a fountain also called living spring. The Well represents sight to produce vision were one can see clearly.
Ezekiel 47:1-23 (amplified)
Then He (my guide) brought me again to the door of the house (of the Lord – The temple), and behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the temple toward the east, for the front of the temple was toward the east; and the waters came down from under, from the right side of the temple, on the south side of the Altar; and on the banks of the river on both its sides. There shall grow all kinds of trees for food; their leaf shall not fade nor shall their fruit fail (to meet the demand). Each tree shall bring forth new fruit every month,(these supernatural qualities being) because their waters came from out of the Sanctuary, and their fruit shall be for food and their leaves for healing.
Remember the song “Lord Prepare Me to be a Sanctuary.” You are that sanctuary where the water will flow from under so we have to tap the well within our earth. God told us that we are the temple. As Ezekiel said the waters issued out from under the threshold of the temple.
Come on, can you see it? It is as plain as the nose on your face.
Remember the River of God is within the earth (which is us). We have to be like Isaac and open again our wells, throw the dirt out, envy, contention, strive and enmity.
Think on this.
